In the same week Samuel Carroll scored a new job, he got a baby bonus – literally.

The Rockhampton man is one of the almost 120 employees who have been working hard to get the new Masters Home Improvement store on Yaamba Rd ready for business. Sam completed an indigenous job ready program with Masters at the Rockhampton Dreamtime Centre earlier this year. Yesterday, he said he was “over the moon” when he was offered a position in the garden section of the store.

“It all happened in one week,” he said. “I found out I got the job and my first son was born. It was perfect timing really.” Sam, who moved to Rockhampton two months ago, said at first he had struggled to find work.

“Now, I’m able to support my family,” he said. Sam said the team at Masters was great and he had enjoyed getting to know everyone.

“When we first got here it was just shelving,” he said. “To know when it opens ... what we have done ... it’s our store.” Sales operation manager Shaun Fernon said the store would be open by the end of the month.

“We’re happy to be a part of the community and excited to get it up and running,” he said.
